Red, White, and Blue Bars Recipe – 4th of July Peanut Butter Slices

Ingredients for the red, white, and blue bars recipe

You’ll need the following ingredients to make this patriotic peanut butter cookie bars recipe.

  • 1 ½ cups of light brown sugar
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 2 ½ cups of red, white, and blue peanut butter M&Ms, divided
  • ¾ cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup of red, white, and blue sprinkles

You’ll also need a mixer and a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.

How to make this Fourth of July dessert recipe

Start by preheating the oven to 350°F (176°C). Spray a 13 x 9-inch ovenproof baking dish with cooking spray.

In a bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until combined. Set this bowl aside.

Place the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer. Beat on medium speed for about 1 minute until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Add the pure vanilla extract and eggs, and beat until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Gradually add the flour mixture and beat until combined. The batter will be smooth and stiff.

Reduce the speed to low and fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and 2 cups of the peanut butter M&Ms, beating the mixture for about 15 seconds.

Remove the mixing bowl and use a spatula to finish stirring the batter. Make sure that the peanut butter M&Ms and chocolate chips are well dispersed throughout the batter.

Press the cookie bar batter into the prepared pan and smooth it with a spatula.

Sprinkle the remainder of the red, white, and blue peanut butter M&Ms and the sprinkles over the top of the batter. Lightly press the M&Ms into the batter.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the peanut butter cookie bars are cooked in the center and the edges are golden brown.

Remove the pan, place it on a wire rack, and cool for an hour before cutting into 24 bars.

  • ½ teaspoon of salt

  12. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the 4th of July bars are cooked in the center and the edges are golden brown.
  13. Remove the pan, place it on a wire rack, and cool for at least an hour before cutting the bars.
