Paleo Worcestershire Sauce | Soy-Free • Gluten-Free Recipe

This homemade Paleo Worcestershire sauce recipe is a healthy twist on the classic pantry staple—and surprisingly simple to make. 

Traditional Worcestershire sauce contains soy, sugar, molasses and is high in salt. This recipe calls for gluten-free swaps and Paleo-friendly replacements for a cleaner, healthier flavor.

The homemade sauce features three Paleo-friendly ingredients: fish sauce for umami, coconut aminos instead of soy sauce, and coconut sugar for sweetness—plus a few other pantry staples to complete the flavor. You can make this flavorful sauce at home in just minutes.

Ingredients for the paleo and soy-free Worcestershire sauce

To make this healthy Worcestershire sauce without soy, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon of fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of tamarind paste
  • ¼ tsp each of these spices: ground ginger, mustard powder, onion powder, garlic powder
  • ⅛ tsp of ground cinnamon
  • a pinch of cracked black pepper

You’ll also need a Mason jar with a lid or other tight-fitting jar.

How to make a soy-free Worcestershire sauce

The recipe could not be easier to make. It’s ready in less than 5 minutes!

Step 1.  Place all of the ingredients into a large jar. A Mason jar with a tight-fitting lid is ideal.

Step 4. Pour the mixture into an airtight container and store it in the fridge. This mini mason jar shown in the picture below is just the right size to hold about one cup of the Paleo Worcestershire Sauce.

  4. Bring the ingredients to a boil and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Pour the mixture into an air-tight Mason jar and store in the fridge.

Notes

The mixture will last at least as long as the oldest date on your ingredients.

Check to see when the coconut aminos or fish sauce expires. There is really nothing to go wrong in the sauce.

Why do you say that Worcestershire sauce has soy in it? Lea & Perrins seems to not have any soy ingredients.

Thank you for the comment. I should have worded it that Worcestershire sauce is derived from soy, not contains it. It also contains sugar and molasses, which is not allowed on Paleo. The purpose of the recipe is to make it acceptable on a paleo diet. I have updated the post.
