To make these frosted peanut butter brownies, you’ll need the following ingredients:

For the chocolate brownies recipe

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of sea salt
  • ½ cup of unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 tablespoon of 2% milk
  • ¾ cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup of unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of Reese’s peanut butter morsels

To make the peanut butter frosting for brownies

  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter
  • ½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of 2% milk

For the chocolate drizzle

  • 2 tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ teaspoon of coconut oil
  • 6 miniature peanut butter cups, cut into quarters

You’ll also need mixing bowls, a piece of parchment paper, a medium saucepan, a hand mixer, a 9 x 9-inch baking pan, and a piping bag.

Instructions for making the chocolate peanut butter brownies recipe

Start by preheating the oven to 350ºF (180ºC). Line a 9 x 9-inch baking pan with parchment paper and set it aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and sea salt.

Put a small saucepan over medium-low heat and add ½ cup (1 stick) of butter, ¾ cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1 tablespoon of 2% milk, and the cocoa. Gently cook, stirring the whole time, until the mixture is smooth and thick – about 3 minutes.

Be careful not to let the chocolate mixture burn.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the granulated sugar. Stir for about 30 seconds. The mixture will look a little grainy at this point.

Add the eggs, 1 at a time, and mix well. Then stir in the pure vanilla extract. The mixture will resemble fudge at this stage.

Gently add the combined flour, salt, and baking powder until it is incorporated.

Stir in the milk, and beat until the frosting is very smooth – 1 more minute.

To make the drizzle, place 2 tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips and ¼ teaspoon of coconut oil in a small microwave-safe bowl.

Heat on 50% power in 20-second increments until the chocolate has melted – about 1 – 2 minutes.

Add the melted chocolate to a piping bag and snip the end of the bag.

  11. To make the frosting, put 3 tablespoons of room temperature butter, the peanut butter, ½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract, and the confectioner's sugar into a bowl. Mix at medium-high speed with a hand mixer until a thick paste forms, about 2 minutes.
  12. Stir in the milk, and mix until smooth, about 1 minute more.
  13. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies.
  14. To make the chocolate drizzle, place 2 tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips and ¼ teaspoon of coconut oil in a small microwave-safe bowl.
