Everything goes better with bacon, so the saying goes. Did you know that bacon has its own special day? It is celebrated on the Saturday before Labor Day in the US. There are also some who think of international bacon day as December 30. Whichever day you celebrate it, one of these bacon recipes is the perfect way to give praise to this popular meat.
Bacon Day in the US started in the year 2000, when the residents of Craig in Bradford, Massachusetts decided to make this a social event. Some people celebrate bacon day by going all out and having bacon breakfast, lunch and dinner, desserts and drinks. There are even baking recipe contests on the day. International bacon day was started three years before in 1997 and is celebrated on December 30th each year. In the US, this year bacon day falls on September 5, 2015.
My desire to keep my waistline in check won’t let me celebrate in such a lavish manner as some do, but I do have to admit that bacon has a special taste and does deserve its own day. And it also makes a fitting end to summer too!
