How to make brownies from cake mix

Start by gathering your ingredients. You’ll need these items:

Chocolate cake mix, sweetened condensed milk, peanut butter chips, chocolate chips, pure vanilla extract, peanut butter, eggs and butter on a counter top.

  • Eggs
  • Smooth peanut butter
  • Unsalted butter, melted
  • Chocolate cake mix – any variety will work
  • Peanut butter chips
  • Chocolate chips
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  • Pure vanilla extract – Don’t use imitation vanilla. Pure vanilla extract has much more flavor.

Making the cake mix brownie batter

Put the eggs, cake mix, smooth peanut butter, and melted butter in a food processor.

Pulse until everything is mixed. The batter will be very thick.

Set aside 1 1/2 cups of this mixture for the top layer of the cake mix brownies.

Press the remaining cake batter mixture into the bottom and partially up the sides of an ungreased 9″x 13″ baking pan.

Stir with a spoon until the morsels melt and the mixture is smooth and creamy. Add in the pure vanilla extract.

This mixture will make up the center layer of the peanut butter chocolate brownies.

Pour the filling over the cake batter crust in the pan. Spread the mixture evenly taking it close to the edge of the cake batter crust without touching the sides of the pan.

Crumble the reserved cake batter mixture over the chocolate/peanut butter filling. Try to cover the top evenly but it’s okay if there are a few areas that remain uncovered.

The topping will be crumbly, not smooth.

Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cake mix brownies are lightly browned.

I used a fork in the last two minutes to smooth out the topping and continued baking. This gave me a smoother topping.
