Fruit crumbles are some of my favorite summer time desserts.  See this fresh fig and blueberry crumble for another tasty option.

The recipe is easy to make, and yet full of flavor.  The fruit mixture is creamy and delicious and the crumble makes you feel as though you are not eating something geared to a diet.

Assemble your ingredients.  Preheat the oven to 350° F, and coat 2 small  oven proof baking dishes with cooking spray. Peel and core the apples and pears.

Combine all ingredients for the filling in a large saucepan over medium-high heat and cook gently, bringing the mixture to a simmer.

Decrease the heat to medium, and continue cooking, stirring often, until the apples and pears are tender and the liquid reduces by half – about 25 minutes.  Transfer filling to the  baking dishes.

Combine all the dry ingredients for the topping in a small bowl.

Add the butter and mix well to combine.

Apple and pear crisp ready to bake

Sprinkle the topping over the fruit mixture, and then bake for 5-10 minutes, or until the topping has browned and is slightly crispy.

This recipe makes quite a nice portion with a calorie count about 230 calories.  Very filling and you won’t feel as though you are on a diet.

Fresh apples and pears combine with nutmeg, cinnamon and brown sugar and then get topped with a crunchy crumble topping for this delicious dessert.

Ingredients

For the filling

  • 1 pear, cut into cubes
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, cut into cubes
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

For the topping

  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp chopped pecans
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

  6. Sprinkle the topping over the fruit mixture, and then bake for 5-10 minutes, or until the topping has browned and is slightly crispy.
  7. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint (optional).
